Western Pennsylvania became the primary destination of new immigrants and those with wanderlust in their veins. In order to better understand our family migration, its timeline as well as the approximate birth date of family members, I put a spreadsheet together of all land warrant, tax records, and Revolutionary War records for these three much intermingled families. Bedford PA spreadsheet They include Andrew Huston, Alexander Huston and Mary Johnson, Jacob Oswalt and Rebecca Huston, Jacob Oswalt Jr. and Sarah Huston, and Jacob Croy and Mary Huston. Western PA. Family Sheets a pdf document One thing is sure. The majority of their lives in the last half of the 1700’s was spent in Londonderry Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania along Wills Creek not far from the Mason-Dixon line. I am indebted to Larry Smith whose excellent website Mother Bedford – The Pennsylvania Frontier Of The 1700s. provided many insights and some missing information. I recommend it highly.
Hi Donna,
I just discovered your great site. I did research back 20 years ago in PA, regarding my ancestral George Cook lines (Cook, Korns, Lepley, et al). I have a lot of Cook materials, original land sales document (Korn to Cook in 1817) etc. I’m just starting to get back into genealogy. Your links to the Larimer township Cook references are new to me, and I cannot wait to look into them more. Thank you! Steve Cook (4th great grandson of George Cook)
Great to meet you. I “fictionally” included the Cook name as a reference to where my protagonist lived in The Scattering of Stones! I found the Cook name numerous times as I investigated the Wills Creek clan…including on tax records. And I loved visiting Bedford County, PA. There is a lot on the site including spreadsheets embedded in some of the posts. Good luck with all!
